Brummel Eye Splice for rope made with Dyneema© fibre

This Brummel Eye Splice is recommended for 12 strand single braid high modulus fibre ropes, namely our SupreemX-12 and Vectro-12 lines.

This method of Brummel Splice requires both ends of the rope and depending on the length of rope or existing hardware, you may need to use this method of Brummel splice instead.

A Brief Note on Rope Usage & Safety

Preparations

Rope and matching fid
Measuring tape
Marker

Fids & Measurements

It is important to note that when we reference a “fid” or a number of “fid lengths” within these splicing instructions, we are referring to a “full fid length” which is calculated at 21 x the rope diameter. If you are using fids for your measurements, you must be sure to account for the type of fid you are using i.e. “half 10.5x, long 14x or full fids 21x”.

Stage 1 – Measurements & Marking

Make “mark 1” 2¼ fid lengths (47 times the rope’s diameter) from the bitter end. Form the desired eye and make “mark 2” opposite of “mark 1”. (1¼ fid lengths were used in the photos for photographic reasons)
Place the bitter end in the fid and pass through “mark 2”.
Line up “mark 1” with “mark 2”.

Stage 2 – Working the Other End

Make a mark on the short length at a distance of 1x the diameter of the rope away from the newly formed eye.
Attach a fid to the other/2nd end of the rope (the end with the finished spliced eye in the photos) and pass it through the mark you made in step 1. (To work a spliced eye through a rope, you may want to either tape the rope to the fid or ideally, switch to a larger fid.)
Now that you have the 2nd end of the rope worked through the middle, pull it all the way through.
Set the Brummel by pulling the rope in such a way that the two crossovers are pulled tightly together.

Stage 3 – The Burial

Attach the bitter end to the fid, enter the rope at a distance of 1x the rope diameter.
Run the fid up the hollow middle of the rope, exit at a distance of 2-2/3 fid lengths (56x the rope diameter).
Pull the rope out ½ a fid length (10.5x the diameter).

You are almost finished…

Remove the tape and cut the left and right strands where the rope exits (as marked in the photo).
Move 2 picks closer to the bitter end and cut another 2 strands and repeat.
Cut the remaining 6 strands at an angle.
Holding the eye, milk the rope to bury the tapered end.
